Recommendation

We recommend the Franklin Sports Fastpitch Series Lightweight Softball Glove. This lightweight glove is a great value. It’s made for fastpitch softball, but it is good for baseball, too. We liked its comfort and flexibility and how easy it was to break in. It was a close call, but this glove turned out to be the best.

Our young players tried many different gloves, but this one had the highest performance rating among our players. They liked its light weight and the way it moved. This glove is an awesome choice for girls because it provides the right combination of flexibility and cushioning for a young athlete. Read our detailed review below.

Baseball gloves for left handed throwers - Product Reviews

1. Franklin Sports Fastpitch Series Lightweight Softball Glove - Left Handed First Base Glove

The Franklin Sports Fastpitch Series Lightweight Softball Glove is a great glove for first base when your player is using their left hand to throw. It’s lightweight so it can move quickly. This glove won’t slow you down. Also, it’s easy to break in. Watch the video below.

Our players had no trouble catching the ball with proper form using this glove. They were able to move quickly and comfortably. One key to the flexibility is the soft palm. It not only provides cushioning, but it also makes the glove easy to move.

Our players really liked how well this glove performed and there were no sore hands after the game, so it adds to safety as well. Its low cost means you can buy this glove for your whole team.

2. Mizuno Prospect GXC112 Youth Catcher's Mitt - Left Handed Catchers Mitt

The best left-handed catcher’s mitt we tested was the Mizuno Prospect GXC112 Youth Catcher’s Mitt. This glove we preferred for the position of catcher by all of our left-handed players. One thing everyone noticed was its padding and flexibility. This made it a fairly comfortable glove.

Mizuno brand gloves are high quality, but the go within a range. This one is a lower end glove. Mizuno catcher’s mitts can range from around $40 to $600. The reason we chose this Mizuno mitt is because of the value. You get Mizuno quality and craftsmanship for a low price.

As stated before, though, our favorite is the Franklin. Why? Comfort. This glove is a great value for a Mizuno and it’s comfortable compared to other catcher’s mitts. However, it didn’t match the Franklin when our team tried it out.

This Mizuno is a 31.5-inch catcher’s mitt. That makes it a full sized youth catcher’s mitt. The V-shaped notch in the glove is the reason why it’s so flexible. That notch makes it easier for the catcher to close the glove around the ball. Our players found it to be superior to other catcher’s gloves for that reason.

3. Spalding Fast S Series H-Web Fielding Glove - Left Handed Pitching Gloves

One glove that our pitchers liked was the Spalding Fast S Series 12.5” H-Web Fielding Glove. This glove has many features that make it a comfortable glove while maintaining its utility. It’s well padded with silicone foam that makes catching the ball safe and comfortable.

It’s not as flexible or easy to break in as the Franklin, but once it was broken in we found our pitchers really liked it. Why?

The lining in the glove is breathable and also adds to the comfort. Not only is it breathable, but the interior of the glove is easy to clean and disinfect. This is helpful if you have a couple of players that want to use the same glove. The silicone foam is easy to clean and a great shock absorber.

While the inside might be silicone, the outside is all leather. That makes this a tough glove and you won’t have to worry about replacing it mid-season. Our players liked the comfort of this glove and it was easy to clean out to let other players give it a try. This is best pitching glove we tried and that’s why it made our list of best left handed baseball gloves.

Buying tips

  • Gloves with leather exteriors will stand up better to wear.
  • Look for a glove that’s flexible so your players can catch and hold on to the ball. You don’t want the ball to slip from their grasp because the glove is too stiff.
  • Find a glove with good interior padding. While the ball is supposed to go into the pocket, it can hit hard on the palm and fingers at times. They need to be protected.
  • Choose a glove the is right for the position. A fielder’s glove doesn’t often work well as a catcher’s mitt. Some gloves are more versatile than others, but try to stick with the recommended position.

Conclusion

Each of these three gloves are a great choice for players depending on their position. However, if you still cannot make up your mind, we feel that the Franklin Sports Fastpitch Series Lightweight Softball Glove is slightly better than the others. Comfort of young players is very important to help them keep their love of the game. Safety is another concern which is why we always recommend gloves with good padding for all players. The last thing you want is to have an injury take a good player off the field. Injuries are preventable if you have the best left handed baseball gloves.
